Hi,
When I try to launch Crystal Reports 2008 on my PC it opens and then it immediately shuts down. No error messages or any indication what the problem is. I uninstalled it and re-installed it and it didn't solve the problem. I have gone into the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER and turned off look for automatic updates.
Any help would be appreciated.
Seems all these issue are due to some third party application blocking CR or it's required dependencies.

Hi all
I have the same problem, at the execution of CR 2008 SP3 on windows server 2003 the process CRW32 is killed by ? Probably a Windows program but where ?
I have just the time to see the 'prompt' Crystal Report and the process shut down, without error message.
When i am logged on with admin login, i haven't the problem...
Someone have a solution ?
Thx
Hello,
Please don't attach yourself to posts answered as marked. If no one is watching you will never get an answer. Post a new question and refer to this one if need be.
Likely you need permissions. When you install make sure you give access to all users and that all users have access to the registry etc. Others had Virus software blocking CR from running or accessing dependencies.
Use Process Monitor and look for access denied errors or in your anti-virus logs or even in the even viewer.
Thank you
Don
When my network admin logged into my pc as Administrator, we were able to launch Crystal and it remained open with no issues.

Hi Giulia,
Thank you for confirming. So it would appear some MS patch alter permissions on a component CR needs which it had but no longer...
Can you ask your IT guys to run Process Monitor also and see what Access Denied Errors you get where they don't get the errors under their Admin account. CR does require full Admin rights to access the registry and other system files. They may have to modify your user accounts to full admin rights or at least determine if maybe a Super User would be sufficient.
Thanks again
Don
I got my Crystal Reports working. The issue is related to the bottom half of the Start Page that loads HTML pages. For whatever reason, the html couldn't be completed loaded successfully. So to get rid of this I had to use the offline start page for Crystal. To do this I did the following:
- Went to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Business Objects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\Start Page\en.
- Renamed 'start.html' to 'start_old.html'
- Changed the file name for 'offlinestart.html' to 'start.html'
Restarted Crystal Reports.

Hi Debi,
Not sure, no one here has been able to duplicate the problem. I have seen that Java script error on other sites in both IE and Firefox but not when starting up CR.
The odd part is that the link by itself works, just not through the Crystal UI.....
What version of the Java JDK do you have installed? Should be able to find it in Control Panel. While in there clear the Java Cache to see if that helps.
It appears more people are starting to run into this problem so I'll do more testing and code checking to see if I can find out what is happening.
Can you run Process Monitor and capture the logs for me? I'll send you an e-mail to send it to me. I'll compare to a working log here and see if it captures the difference.
Thanks again
Don
Don,
My Java is 6 update 21 (1.6.0_311-b07) Cleared the cache to no avail.
I am contacting my it regarding the testing as I have limited admin rights. - waiting hear from him.
Debi
My IT person is running process monitor now.

What happens if your IT person tries to run Crystal as the local PC admin?
And when they installed it were they the local Admin also? Or did you have rights to install and then rolled your level back?
did your IT guys push CR out to you using the Windows Install Services? And if so did it have full rights?
Did you have the option to install for all users?
Did they keep the Create install Log option on when it was installed? If so they should go through it and compare between your log and a local PC admin user log.
Thanks again
Don

......... gets the same error as posted here: [;
> And when they installed it were they the local Admin also? Or did you have rights to install and then rolled your level back?
> did your IT guys push CR out to you using the Windows Install Services? And if so did it have full rights?
..........it was pushed to me months ago; the error started the last week of September.

..........Yes it is installed for all users
> Did they keep the Create install Log option on when it was installed? If so they should go through it and compare between your log and a local PC admin user log.
...........I have no idea on this one.
Re: Users Profile
I had someone log in on my computer that had never used it so new profile was created. When I opened Crystal, we got the same script error.

Hi John,
Check this post, turns out some third party application was blocking CR from getting to the start page and not popping up a message indicating it was blocked.
Use Fiddler, and look for any 302 errors and then it should show 304 errors. 302 is a redirect to another SAP site and the 304 is just a retry.
Thanks you
Don
The day my Crystal stopped working the following was installed on my pc:
- Hotfix For Windows XP (KB2158563)
- Microsoft Silverlight 4.0.50917.0

It's not the first time MS patches have broken things. Likely security has been added that CR no longer has access to a dependency.
To find Kbase article try this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/advancedsearch?query=boj
Fill in the number in the search line and if it's marked as External you should get it... And I had a look at the article, not the same issue....
Try using ProcessMonitor and filter on crw32.exe. From the logs look for Access Denied errors should indicate what CR can't get to any more.
Another option may be to go into Add/Remove Programs and try doing a repair install of CR.
Thanks
Don
I am also having this same problem. Crystal 2008 developer, XP Pro. Was working fine, then one day last week, I opened the program and it showed the initial screen, then immediately closed.

I'm having what looks to be the same problem. It just started yesterday. I'm trying to open the Designer and it gets to a point at which it looks like it is finished loading then flashes what looks to be an error message and then closes. It flashes the message so fast you can't read it. I'm running Windows XP Pro. Have never had this problem before.

Hello,
That's odd. Did you install any windows Patches lately? It may be that some security level was altered which won't allow CR to run or access some dependency. Or Anti-virus software doesn't have it in the trusted application list and see's it running and kills it.
Look in the Application Event logs for crw32.exe, it may tell you why. Another option is to check with your IT's guys if you have them, maybe they turned on your firewall or anti-virus software or change permissions for programs.
Try also adding Crystal Reports to the trusted list in all of your security programs, firewalls and Data Execution Prevention.
If you want to really dig into the problem download a program called Process Monitor and filter on crw32.exe. Then look for Access Denied errors.
Thank you
Don
Sorry I haven't responded sooner as I have been out of the office.
I can't open the article that you sent the link for. Is there another way of accessing it?
Also, I added the crystal exe to the DEP and that didn't work. I had our Network Admin check the fire wall and security policy and nothing is out of order or at least what ever he tested didn't seem to make a difference.
I have been able to install Crystal 2008 SP2 (that's what I am using) on another pc and does not cause the same issue.
I did have a windows update the day that things stopped working.
Giulia
Do you mean the CR 2008 Designer or the CR 2008 viewer? What version of windows do you use?
Regards,
Stratos
