BOBI required for BODS installation ?

Hello Experts,

I have some queries related to DS installation.

1. Is it mandatory to install BOBI before installing sap BODS? As per sap installation guide it is saying we need to install BOBI . is it a prerequisites ?

2. If yes, if it is mandatory, then we had a BODS 4.0 environment previously without BOBI. How this is possible ?
3. can we have only bobi server node or cms which is required to install SAP BODS ? Means without full BOBI functionality. Just a simple CMS installation to satisfy the prerequisites of BODS installation ?

Can any one clarify these queries?
