BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2 + characteristic items and their extension

Hi Experts,

I am using BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2 for updating characteristic items for a main line item. using structures order_cfgs_ref, order_cfgs_inst, order_cfgs_value and order_cfgs_refinst.
I am also filling extension structures to update custom fields, for all items and charecteristics.

Issue : Custom fields for main items alone getting updated. Custom fields for characteristics not getting update.
