Client Copy PRD to DEV testing client & transports

Hi all,

I'm in the process of refreshing our QA and DV systems from PRD. I've completed the QA refresh using a remote client copy from PRD. At the time there were no transports in QA waiting for promotion to PRD so I don't think any transports needed to be brought back into QA.

I'm now preping to do the same thing for our DV test client. For your information, our DEV system has 3 "working" clients:

110 - ABAPer development client, report, programs, etc.

120 - CUSTomizing client

710 - TEST client with data (where the PRD refresh will go).

Question 1:

There is some current work in 110 happening. The transports for that work haven't been released, and won't be ready for release before the client copy. I don't expect there to be any transports released that haven't been moved into production at the time of the client copy.

Since that work in 110 is cross client (programs mostly, one new table not yet moved up), it should not be affected by the client copy into 710 (we use the APPX profile, so application data, customizing, no user info). I'm I right to assume that the work in 110 will no be affected? That is the programs that are being worked on there will remain in tact. Or will they be overwritten by the client copy from PRD? So they should have a backup copy of their code?

Question 2:

In addition, I'm trying to understand the role SCC1 would play. We haven't used that T-Code in the past. Would I use SCC1 to bring in any unreleased transports from 120 (should there be any), into the refreshed 710? (In the past changes to customizing was moved to DEV710 via the transport system).

Thanks for your thoughts and advice regarding this phase of the client copy we are working on.

    Hi Laurie,

Your assumption in Q.1 is right. A client copy does not impact the developments on any other clients on the same system. Also client copy never overwrites any Program or Data Dictionary Definitions.

On your second question. After the refresh the client 710 will not have any of the customized TRs under development (un released). If you want to bring those to 710. execute SCC1, give the source client (in your case it will be 120) and the TR number. However you will have to repeat this for all of your TRs which you want to move to this refreshed client. You can also use report/program RSCC_SCC1_BATCH, to take all in one shot. Refer to SAP Note 645846 for more details.
