Extracting Question for BW 7.0 - step by step

Former Member

First I would like to apologize for a very basic question, I am having difficulty understanding this, especially with 7.0 changes.

If data (ex. data from vbrk) from R/3 needs to be extracted to BW infocube, what are the steps taken? Can you please be detailed and include tcodes. I'm assuming whatever the first step is, finding SAP provided standard programs to avoid customizing is the highest priority.

If anyone can provide a link or explain it would be much appreciated. I could not find step by step instructions anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Dear ZAIN,

R/3 SIDE

=========

LBWE:- MANITAIN EXTRACT STRUCTURE AND DATASOURCE ; ( EXAMPLE : FOR VBRK TABLE GO FOR 2LIS_13_VDHDR.)

LBWG:- DELETE SET UP TABLES (EXAMPLE FOR 2LIS_13_VDHDR ---> 13)

SBIW(0R)OLI*BW :- FILLING UP SET UP TABLES (EXAMPLE: OLI9BW FOR 2LIS_13_VDHDR)

RSA3:- EXTRACTOR CHECKER (GIVE THE DATASOURCE NAME : 2LIS_13_VDHDR )

RSA7 :-BW DELTA QUEUE

BW SIDE.

=======

REPLICATE THE DATASURCE THROUGH FUNCTION MODULE (RSDS_DATASOURCE_REPLICATE IN SE37)

CREATE THE TRANSFORMATION WITH THE DATASOURCE

CREATE AN INFOPACKAGE AND LOAD.

Thanks for the reply, I had follow up questions:

1) So the first thing to check when extracting data is to create or use SAP standard Datasource? Yes/No? If not, what is?

2) How can you search for a SAP standard datasource? For example I need to extract data from table Mara, where can I search for a SAP standard datasource? You mentioned 2LIS_13_VDHDR, how did you know that this datasource is related to VBRK?

3) Are there SAP standard datasources what can extract for more than 1 table?

4) If extraction is needed from 2-3 tables, is there an option to copy SAP standard datasource and modify it OR just create a custom datasource?

Again, sorry for basic questions. I am writing my own step by step document.

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes, otherwise you will have to create custom extractor

2.You can search forum / help.sap or in R/3 you can check the DS in RSA5 and find relavent ds and their tables

3.yes, it's difficult to name them .. you can enter ds in RSA3 and choose debug to find the tables or you can search thru RSO2 - underlying function module

4.you can create custom/genereic datasource in RSO2 for your requirements

Dear ZAIN,

As srini said you have to check the datasource's for the particular table or

you have to create custom/genereic datasource in RSO2 for your requirements.

This is the best way to design your datasource.

hi,

1. Yes .. You need to check for datasource in R/3.. If its not there you can create custom datasource.

2. Go to RSA3 / RSA6 and there you can check for available datasources.

3. There are datasources which can extract data from more than 1 table and also you can create your customized datasource to extract data from more than 1 table.

4. Also you can do some amendments to standard datasource ..

Hope this helps...

Thanks,

Vikrant
