Hi
I a starting to make a backup and recovery plan for our SAP ME 5.2 SP3 environment. It runs on Netweaver CE 7.1 EHP1. Are there some helpful SAP notes, that give a brief overview what are the critical points, what to backup etc.
It so hard to find anything useful in the portal since SAP ME has so many different names in there.
Br,
Jennsen
Hello Jennsen,
I would suggest you following this link https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/instguides. Please check 'Application Operations Guide' for SAP Manufacturing Execution 5.2 where you can find 'Backup and Restoration' chapter.
SAP Note #1321240 may also be helpful.
Regards,
Alex.

Hi
The link was describing how to backup SQL. This is not the problem for us.
I was more looking for ways to archive ODS. We would like to "cut" off some ODS data and take it offline since our database will grow beyond usable pretty soon but we need to store data for 10 years. Are there procedures to reduce ODS size?
Another critical point seems the dependency between WIP and ODS. if data is moved from WIP to ODS, removed/archived from WIP and then ODS crashes before the backup goes through how to restore all data. Eg how to sync the database backups.
Are there any notes/guidelines about those? Or should we contact SAP to create or review our backup plan?
Br,
Jennsen
The only official way to cut down huge volumes of ODS data is ODSAging.bat in Clients. But it simply deletes the data which is not necessary according to the rule in days specified in ODS Rule Maintenance. In addition, ODSWIPAging.bat deletes data from WIP tables which are not covered by archiving.
As to backup, I would rather address this question to Consulting service because I believe this is a good load of work and there are many things to consider.
Regards,
Sergiy
