Fixed bin Strategy

I have gone thru the help.sap for the documentation over this and it says that I need to mention the Fixed bin cordinate or number in the material master WM view and addition to stock has to be activated in the Fixed bin storage type master data along with the capapcity check.

Question: suppose we have bin 01-01-01mentioned in the material master and its capacity is 1000 kg now the bin is full and it contains the quant of 1000 kg weight.Now if we want to store further material to this bin I pressume we will get an error message that the bin is full. So what will be the solution for this apart from the obvious solution that to remove the material from bin to create some space in it?

Hi,

You have the answer, in Fixed bin Strategy you cannot store more than that in the Storage Bin, In your case 01-01-01 bin has a capacity of 1000KG and the stock is also full, so the system will through an error saying storage bin in Full. So you need to store the material in a temporary storage location for storing the excess materials. Once the bin is empty then you can transfer the material from temp. SLoac to the Bin.

if I create more then 1 bin in fixed storage type but in material master only single bin co-ordinates are there and that one is full.then If more material has to be putway would it not look into the next availble bin in that storage type.

Hi,

It depends on the capacity check you use. If it is 1 , base on max weight, I presuem you have framed your question based on this check, the system calculates capacity for each quant, in your case each quant can reach 1000 kgs. Which is a seldefeating. So for strategies 1 to 3 , mixed storage is not recommended. However addition to existing stock should not be a problem , since the stock not create another quant.

If the capcaity is less than 1000 kgs , system allows material to the bin , otherwise capacity is exceeded.

If you really want to put more stock in that bin then the obvious answer is to either change or remove the capacity limit

I dont want to put more goods in that its just a hypothetical secenerio .

what I want to understand is if this kind of case occurs then what would be the solution for this.

If the only solution is to get it emptied just confirm so that I can close this thread.

I presume you are talking about putaway process. If the bin is overfilled on your putaway process with fixed bin strategy, you have to look the dynamic bin strategy then.

how to look for dyanamic bin strategy ???

when I create a material I mention storage type 005(fixed) and in WM view I give the fixed bin co-ordinate. and if its full I can not go and change the put away strategy in storage type to dyanamic one as its part of config and in real time secenerio if this happens then client is not going to accept this solution.
