EVDRE: Sumparent. Does this only work when expanding down AND accross

Dear Forum,

I am trying to put together an input schedule that uses SUMPARENT to calculate all the parent values in the reportin grid. This seems to work ok when I expand on row and columns but stops working when I expand on Rows only. Does anyone know why this may be happening or experienced this before and found a workaround

best regards

Azim

Hi Nilan,

Thanks for your response.

Could you let me know what you mean when you say "maintain it in the dimension" - the only action I have taken to use the SUMPARENT functionality was to put a "Y" against sumparent in the EVDRE options. This then results in excel based subtotals. When I then remove one of my expansions then all of the SUMPARENT excel subtotals disappear. Is there something else i need to do to maintain. The down dimension contains accounts with lots of parents so i would expect to see lots of syumparent totals

thanks for helping

Hi Azim,

I would request you to use the afterrange parameter of EVDRE. Use this for the dimension on which you are having the expansion.

Hope you got the point.

Nilan,

When I use the afterrange EVDRE puts one sum at the bottom of the account list - how do i get it to subtotal at each parent in the accounts hierarchy?

Dear Azim,

This is right. AfterRange expansion comes after the expansion of the memberset.

You can try using EVALS in the memberset.

Hey Azim

This thread is a bit old so not sure if you have worked this out as if you have it'd be awesome.

I'm having this same issue and the only thing I can get to work is if I have a dynamic dimension in both my rows and my columns, then I can get sumparent to put in the formulas.

If however I don't meet that criteria or I refer to SELF in a dimensino it doesn't work.

So for the time being I have a work around that after the refresh button is pressed (I imbedded one in the worksheet) then it runs a piece of code that finds all the calculated members and places a formula in there. But I'm sure there is a better way to do this, if you have come across one that'd be much appreciated

Thanks

Hi Azim,

Its not that it wont work. You need to maintain that in the dimension which is getting expanded dynamically. So, if you have expansion in the rows, then you can maintain that in the rows (and not in columns).

Hope this helps.
