I am installing SAP ABAP trial on windows 7 and I have encountered some problems.

Please help me solve this problem.

Phase 2 : install common system files

Error happened during this step: installing SAP MMC Snap-In and creating shortcuts

Error message:

Running msiexec failed with return code 1603: Schwerwiegender Fehler bei der Installation.

Commandline was msiexec.exe /norestart /L sapmmcX86u.log /i sapmmcX86u.msi /qn

If you want the installer to retry, choose Yes. If you want the installer to abort the installation, choose No.

I have alreday given the permission/rights that are necessary for the user who is installing the system.

Hello All,

We also faced the same error, I would like to share the solution steps which we have applied.

Solution :

Refer Note 1236002 - Error during the SAP MMC MSI installation or uninstallation

As per the note :

  1. Download utility “Microsoft Fix It” from http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
  2. You have the option to run this utility online or you can download the folder structure following the instructions on this page
  3. Then copy the Fix it Portable folder to the computer with the problem and run the Launch Fix it application

What Microsoft Fix It fixes...

  • Removes bad registry key on 64 bit operating systems.
  • Windows registry keys that control the upgrade (patching) data that become corrupted.
  • Resolves problems that prevent new programs from being installed.
  • Resolves problems that prevent programs from being completely uninstalled and blocking new installations and updates.
  • Use this troubleshooter for an uninstall only if the program fails to uninstall using the windows add/remove programs feature.

Best Regards..

I donu2019t think so it is windows 7 or 64/32 bit hardware/software issue. I have faced u201Cmsiexec failed with return code 1603u201D error many times during SAP installation and solved this issue with below mentioned procedure.

Solution:

Just change the location of temp and tmp directory to empty folder in user environment variable without cancel installation in current user session. After that, click on yes button to continue the installation. If installation will ended after click on yes button, restart the installation with continue old installation option.

Regards.

Thanks Muhammad Yasir,

You're right, it just took a change of user env variable to an empty TEMP and TMP dir to fix the issue. Helped me well.

Best regads.

FWIW, using info from this thread, I noticed that the user environment variable was set to E:\usr\sap\SAP\tmp but it did not exist. Once I created it and then retried, the installation moved forward to completion.

Hi,

could you please look in the Event Viewer and search for the entry and post it here?

Also, a look at the log file (sapmmcX86u.log) might also help.

Did you habe an old version of the MMC installed? It might be a problem with the uninstallation if the old MMC.

I have looked into the file sapmmcx86u.log and found this message:

MSI (s) (00:40) [10:35:49:241]: Product: SAP MMC SnapIn -- This installation does not support 64 Bit Windows Operating systems. Please use the corresponding 64 Bit installation package.

This installation does not support 64 Bit Windows Operating systems. Please use the corresponding 64 Bit installation package.

Action ended 10:35:49: LaunchConditions. Return value 3.

Action ended 10:35:49: INSTALL. Return value 3.

MSI (s) (00:40) [10:35:49:244]: Product: SAP MMC SnapIn -- Installation failed.

What should I do at this level? Other people in this forum have successfully installed the system om windows 7(64)

Hi,

most probably you're trying to install a 32-bit SAP application on a 64-bit windows.

What exactly are you installing?

Please look for a 64-bit version of your software and try the installation again.

Hi,

thank you for your answer. I am trying to install the SAP NetWeaver 7.01 ABAP Trial Version on windows 7 (system type 64 bit).

What I would like to know now is if there is a way around. I would like to learn programming in ABAP with the system.

Thank you
