OK, you have an application - how much is it?

I think itu2019s time to come down to earth on a very important point: cost!

If customers donu2019t like the price they will not buy.

The consumer mobile app pricing model that we are all familiar is low price / high volume, with a few premium applications costing more. Enterprise app volumes are not going to reach this level so we can expect the unit price to be higher, but how high?

I recently heard a licensing quote for (only a part) of a SAP mobile application that caused my jaw to drop. It would have probably cost half of what it would cost me to run an iPhone on contract u2013 sorry, but I donu2019t want an app that costs several hundred pounds to run per device.

That price point would make it a non-starter for any SME penetration ( SME is a sore point for SAP, now you can see why) and even large enterprises may baulk at that.

Iu2019d like to think that the final pricing will be a lot lower (especially for the component in question) otherwise there could be a lot of embarrassed faces when the first quarter sales are published.

As a customer, how much would be expecting to pay per app per device? Obviously it depends on

The cost of app development depends on many factors, but there are ways to help reduce mobile app development costs. It is impossible to estimate the cost of each project, as they all have their own uniqueness and functionality. However, understanding the main factors that affect the cost of development is vital. https://www.cleveroad.com/blog/reduce-mobile-app-development-costs/

Answer to this question really depends on the complexity of the application

We have rolled out a reference app which includes all available transactions in ERP, CRM, BI and PI.

Of course I am talking about public transactions only.

It's called mTrCodes and it's free. The price is like that due to the fact there is nothing complicated that the app does.

It's just a reference.

Good point indeed. I have downloaded hundreds of paid apps on IOS platform; median for business productivity application is mostly taken down by very useful but still limited to function utilities. There are selected few apps on the Apple App Store that can be analyzed for your research, personally to just reply to your final question I would agree that huge premium sale price will lead me to find a comparable cheaper solutions. Alternative may be less sophisticated or I may need two apps instead of one but I would try to minimize costs and obtain a reasonable result. I wouldn't like to pay hundreds to get brand certified application, this is old school business on 4G mobile devices, and it doesn't work. See comparable results on Mac App Store. When you have such a great offer and competition on App Store there is possibility that you pay 100 from Company and a few weeks after 10 from a small firm or even a private with winning ideas. Personally, don't focus just on final price; try to see what can be the added value that will differentiate or keep distinctive the app, put a base application with a relatively low entry costs and push the price with in-app module sales to segment effective needs of people and companies.

Hi Ron

We just rolled out of Bizbox Enterprise Direct for iPhone/iPad. It connects directly to your SAP instance and requires no middleware at all. It delivers Workflow alerts, notification, workitems along with any attachments. It also support Apple Push Notification ( if our SAP bolt-on is installed optionally). It also allows you to execute select actions. Our roadmap is to deliver all the functionality of SAP Workflow via iPhone/iPad that it will help the business users to execute business workflow from anywhere anytime. There is no need to open up your laptop!! Also it would avoid password sharing and make the organization more complaint. We have been diligent about security. It works in VPN enabled environments too. We have been considering battery life and other mobile device consideration that are different from desktop versions.

Now what should it cost? We have priced our app at $149.99 for individual licenses. Considering that our product doesn't need any additional hardware/ software, it's a bargain for companies who are interested in enabling SAP on iPhone. Our goal is to connect with prospective IT advisors and show them the value. For our corporate clients, we provide a custom copy of app store version and support different distribution methods including ad-hoc distribution for quickest implementation. We have also branded our app for one of our prospective clients and help them to show it to their business users. We also support them with prompt bug fixes and branding. We are able to successfully justify the cost to them.

We have seen that our channel partners, who are helping us through our sales process, are also interested to present the value-proposition to their customers.

Good question.

Depends on whether I need it for private or business purposes. On the ipad the most expensive one that I bought was 13.99 (The Elements), but most apps are for free. If I indulge in a shopping spree, I spend 0.99 per app, especially if th ratings are good. 2.99 or so must be a good reason or solving a real problem.

If it's a business problem that I face and I can reimburse it, I would spend more.

Also to note: on the iPhad/iPhone I don't want to spend more than a few dollars (<3), but I buy many applications. While on the PC/Mac I occasionally spend $70, but then I really need to want it and solve a problem (video editing sftware, final draft etc.)
