how to find corresponding universe object from report

Hi Gurus,

I have a deskI report build against a universe which has many class objects. In this universe some classes have repeated names of dimensions like Class Customers has customername dimension and class Orders has a customername too. Lets leave this aside that it was a poorly designed universe, the question is how can i find from my report which dimension it is using and in which class it is located. Thanks

Salah

I doubt there is any way to see which class an object has come from. The only time you will be able to differentiate is when you bring the object from both the classes into the report. In that case it will append the class name with the object, like: Customers.customername and Order.customername.

    Hi,

Any how if you want to see this object in the report you need to merge the dimension in view data -> Data Manager. In the universe you can find it by right clicking the view associated object. Apart from the all if the objects are from different universe it will show the universe name aside like customername( cust from universe1) &customername( cust from universe2)..........Hope you find the solution.

    Regards & Thanks,

See if this is the info you are looking for:

    Data> View Data> Data Manager> Definition tab

I guess this is not correct, I need something like universe designer offers, in that when i right click on on table --> view associated objects then it shows me all the dimension i created from this table. I need to get this for report to show me the dimensions.

there are three workarounds but no solution, as suggested by kashif and noman and the other one is if i change the duplicate object name in universe, then go to deski report and click on edit query the name would be changed automatically and i know which class.object was used (suggested by Alexandre T.).

Do the objects have unique help text? If so, you can figure out what object is used that way. In many cases I have seen universes where the class name was part of the object help text (perhaps on the 2nd or 3rd line of text) to make this back-trace easier.
