Problem in maintaining relationships in scheduling project dates

Dear all,

My project is having 1000 activities.Different WBS has different dates.First the dates were maintained manually.But then after having meeting.

Management needed the scheduling according to time taken for an activity.

While maintaining relationships between all i.e SS and FS.There is some problem in relationship in some activities.

Like 1sts activity date is maintained, but in my project error arises in relationship of first activity with associated activities.ie activity 10 with 20 and 30.

There are some problem in between some of the projects also.like activity 80 ,90 etc

This is creating a major hindrence please help.

I carry out schedule from edit >dates>shedule ctrl+f9

Asutosh,

What is the scheduling scenario in your project? If it is bottom - up, then your scenario works our properly, and what is the scheduling type you are using in the WBSE and the network headers? If it is Forwards, then you have to enter the Start date alone or if it is Backwards, then you have to enter Finish date.

If you are using Top - Down scheduling scenario, then there is a chance of conflicts in the dates of WBS and network activities, as you have to enter all the WBSe start and finish dates manually, the activities assigned to the WBSE must be within the date range of the WBSE. Hence here is a chance of dates conflict.

Please revert with you back with your scenarios.

I have forward sheduling.Most of the relationships are affected while carrying out scheduling.I am having problem is some of them only.

In case of forward scheduling, carry out following steps:

1) Maintain bottom up or free scheduling for WBS

2) Check all the relationships are defiend correctly

3) Check if you have maintain the constraints on any activity.

For rescheduling follow the steps: select all WBS > delete dates and duration and then carry out rescheduling.

Already populated WBS dates creates issue during rescheduling, do follow above step for ensuring the new dates are driven by activities.

If you are rescheduling,

Better you choose bottom-up scheduling scenario,

Then delete dates at all the WBSE, and then carry put scheduling so that it populates the dates at all the levels from the network activities.

Also, as mentioned above, check if there is any constraints maintained for the activities, where you are facing problem.

Provide more information on type of problem you are facing i.e. what are the messages you are getting, whether they are I, W or Error msgs. Message numbers can also help.

if you are having problem with relationship, then you should analyse each and every activity closely. there might be possible that relationships are wrongly mentioned between the activities.

Nope ,

Actually i scheduled the network after maintaining relatioships...All relationships are maintained correctly.I have having problem in some of them only. i.e 5-6 activities.But these activities have highest priority on maintaining relatioships.

When i schedule it , message generated on status bar is Scheduling carried out but relationship has not been affected.

Kindly help.
