About SCC7 - what is running?

Hello,

I have one question about SCC7.

Environment is

SAP : ECC 6.0

OS/DB : AIX/DB2

We tried client export and import to the same system/client, then executed SCC7.

It took only about 10 min. to execute SCC7.

************************************

Source system: ABC

Target system: ABC

duration of SCC7: 10 min.

************************************

When we did client import to another system/client, it took about 3 or 4 hours to execute SCC7.

************************************

Source system: ABC

Target system: DEF

duration of SCC7: 3 or 4 hours.

************************************

What would be done with SCC7?

I'd like to know why the execution time was so differnt.

Thank you very much and best regards,

Takae Momose

Hi,

Let me clear you dought as you are going wrong.

SCC7 is used for Client Export and SCC8 is for Client Import.

First time you are doing in the same system and this tells you that you are exporting the data and importing the data into the same data base and it depends on which data you are exporting like how much the data is and it depends on the time.

First what type of data and the size of data does the Client is holding in your case in the same system/client the data will be less and thus it takes less time.

Second in the another system/client the data is large and as it over rides the data and this takes time.

it all depends on the what kind of data the client is holding and how much data it is.

It varies with the H/W Configuration also if you do use more RAM / Extented memory the activity completes faster according to the time.

Prashanth.

Hi,

Thank you for the comments.

Let me clarify my question.

<Case 1>

1. Execute client export from system ABC/client 100

2. (After some days) Execute client import to system ABC/client 100 from data of step1. Then execute SCC7. SCC7 took only about 10 minutes. (not client import time but "after import processing" time took 10 minutes.) SCC7 completed successfully.

<Case 2>

A. Execute client export from system ABC/client 100

B. Execute client import to system DEF/client 200 from data of step A. Then execute SCC7. SCC7 took about 3 or 4 hours. (not client import time but "after import processing" time took 3 or 4 hours.) SCC7 completed successfully.

System ABC and DEF is the same machine specs (number of CPUs and memory size are the same).

Client size of step1 and stepA is almost the same.

I'd like to know why there is so much time difference between case 1 and case 2.

Thank you very much and regards,

Takae

Hello Sunny,

Thank you for the information.

SCC7 changes the logical name, so if the logical name is same, it takes shorter time than the different logical name because SCC'7 need not to change it.

Is this right?

Is there any other reason of the difference of running time?

Thank you and regards,

Takae.

Hello Takae,

SCC7:

Regenerating the runtime environment using subsequent activities (client validation exits), which adjusts among other things reports, screens, number ranges and tables to the current status of the data. (in the case of client transports the postprocessing in the target client after the import of the transport requests must always be started with Transaction SCC7, or before Release 3.1 with SCC2)

It is recommended to wait a few minutes before you start the SCC7 to ensure that the buffer synchronization is completed.

Also for better understanding of Client Copy (esp. Client transport) have a look at below SAPnote and check for Import postprocessing:

Note 70547 - CC-TOPIC: Client transport

All the best !
