Hi,
I'm trying to install download manager (to download OSS notes) onto my new Windows 7 PC. I have installed Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_18 and downloaded the Download Manager from the SAP marketplace.
It installs with no errors but when I try and run it nothing happens, nothing opens, no messages.
This is currently working on my old Windows XP patch 3 PC.
I have tried to run Download Manager in compatibility mode, but nothing happens. Tech services have looked at the event manager but there are no useful errors.
I've uninstalled it and re-installed it 3 times as well as trying several versions of Java.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone suggest anything I haven't tried?
Thanks,
Gill
Gill,
Are you on SAPGUI 7.20?
If you are not you should upgrade to 7.20

Hello
I'm working on windows 7 and installed the latest download manager version 2.1.140. I need to set proxy host.
According to the installation guide, the java version requirement is 1.5 or higher.
During the SDM installation, in the java path setting screen, only the java version above 1.5 can be selected.
I also installed j2sdk-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe, but this java version could not be selected during installation.
How did you set java version during SDM installation?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi there.
Try the following as this worked for me.
1) Right-click the installation file and select ‘Properties’.
2) Click the ‘Compatibility’ tab.
3) Check the box next to ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select ‘Windows 7’ from the drop-down menu.
4) Click ‘Apply’.
5) Run the installation as normal.
thanks.
I've installed j2sdk-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe and my sap downloadmanager can run eventhough aero theme doesn't work for my Win7.

IE8 settings and compatibility are not relevant at all in this context.
it works when I disable Windows Aero themes and choose instead a "Windows Classic" Theme.
Not fun, but it works.
After that I switch back to the Aero Theme. I guess there's a way to do this automatically when starting the download Manager - but I haven't figured it out yet.
On Windows 7:
Right Mouse Click on the Dekstop
->Personalize
-> Choose a non-Aero-Theme, e.g. "Windows Classic" in section "Basic and High Contrast Themes"
Than start windows download manager again.

Dear Colleagues,
It had the same problem and have been resolved by running the sap download manager program in compatibility mode u201C Windows Vista SP2u201D, now everything is working fine.

I have it working now by using XP mode. Not a solution but a work around

I am having this same issue. I have also tried several versions of Java with the same results. Download manager applications never opens.

I'm running IE8, my previous PC was running IE7.
We've tried it with IE8 and Windows XP and it works so the issue is definately with Windows 7, not IE.
I have tried it with different Java versions, the one I'm using is the one SAP recommends on the download instructions.
