Long runtime when using brarchive verify option

Former Member

Hi everyone,

we have a problem concering the runtime of our Backups. The backup is running fast enough (3h for 320gb), but when we use the verify command for the archivelogs it took 13hours for the redolog processing in the last run. Any suggestions what might cause this long runtime?

The command we use is

BRARCHIVE will be started with options '-U -jid ALLOG20100614200000 -c force -p initFEP.sap -sd -w use_rmv'

The system is a ECC6.0 running on 64Bit Linux on Oracle 10.2.0.2. The BRtools Version is 7.00 (48).

Thanks in advance

Marco

Just a shoot into the blue, but since usually reading of the actual archivelog files is not the issue (especially not with RMAN), I suspect (as in not know for sure ) that the major part of the time may be spent on reading V$LOG or V$ARCHIVED_LOG.

There had been some bugs with the older versions of 10.2.0.2 - so another good reason to go to a reasonably recent version of Oracle (a.k.a. 11g or at least 10.2.0.4).

regards,

Lars

p.s.

maybe updating the oracle dictionary statistics already improves the runtime...

Thanks for your answer Lars. Regarding the V$Log there is a sap note that explains the problem, but it also states that this problem is only on lower brtools releases (i think Patchlevel 15) and i already have a new one. We also considered an upgrade to 10.2.0.4 but we first want to make sure that this is really the problem.

I will try updating the statistics and hope that this might improve the situation a bit

the situation hasn't improved with updated statistics, maybe anyone else has an idea?
