Stop/start of BW 7.0 system-->how to deal with deltas when moving instance?

Dear BW guru's,

we are moving a BW 7.0 system to a new datacenter, where the R3 source systems remain the same.

What should we consider when we want to stop the system, move it, and restart the next day, when the source systems cannot be stopped?

Specifically I may need to clear the delta queues in BW before stopping and moving the system.

After the system has been installed in it's new location, can we just the delta process chains without any other action, and will it extract the delta's from source system where it left of before?

is there something I am overlooking?

thanks for tapping your collective brainpower,

-jh

I guess I'd prefer to

(1) Lock the users out of the source system (no transactions allowed)

(2) Perform a regular load cycle into BI (sweeps & loads)

(3) Shut down the source system

ehhm...we can't lock the source system due to production req's there. The BW system remains the same, so no DB or OS upgrades, etc.

Ahhh .... well if just moving the BW system, and not moving or shutting down the source? I don't believe you have too much to worry about. The delta queues are actually on the source (R3), so they should be fine. In fact, you wouldn't want to manually clear them, or you would lose those transactions. Simply running the regular loads when BI comes back up should work out OK.

Hi,

When you are miving instance and source would be on during that period then you may look for follwoing.

Stop the loads and resume the delta after movement.

If there are some jobs for fetching data in R3/ for BW data source then those needs to be stopped and rescheduled as some time those jobs define the delta in BW.

If there are pseudo delta or some hardcoding for extracting delte then need to take care of the as well.

I hope it will help.

Thanks,

About the Delte Queue, we perform this to make sure that we are in safe side so that we dont loose any data during the Upgrade or Stack installation.

As in your case as you are moving the data center, even I feel that draining the Delta is a good option to go ahead with the further activities.. and also the other points is that stop the V3 job as well so that there will not be any data movement between the Extract/Update Queue to RSA7.

May be you can post this question in the Basis FORUM to get more updates and help..
