Date Showing Up as Text in BEx Analyzer

I have a date InfoObject that is showing up as a text field when the query runs in BEx Analyzer. It looks like '01/01/2010. Notice the apostrophe. I need it to be a true date field because I am going to use it in a pivot table. I know I can convert it in Excel, but I would rather know how to get it to show up as a date field to begin with.

      Hi Jason,

Can you please tell me how exactly you created the replacement path variable for the date?

I just tried it with Formula Variables and furthermore formulas and selections.

Beside of the fact, that I don't want to have the date in the area of key figures, I also get no real date format. I cannot calculate with the value in excel.

Can you please give me some more hints?

      Thank you!

      Best regards,

      Heike

In the Query Designer, goto the properties of the characteristic and select Key for Display instead of text.

Alas, this is not a 'problem'. It's the way Bex has always been. dates (0CALDAY) are Character based fields, which means that Bex outputs them as text.

Please recall that Bex is designed as an analytic tool, and not as a data extraction tool that enables future analysis. If you must perform follow-on Excel analysis, please use the =DATEVALUE() function in the next empty column, and your serial date value will be calculated.

I wouldn't say that Bex should be used just as analytical tool as you can just as easily use it as some sort of data extraction and analytical tool tool if you use Bex workbooks. I got around the data as text problem so that instead of using Excel SUMIFS function for defining the sums I wanted I used a slightly more powerful function SUMPRODUCT. That function is able to receive the text as input and you can force it to look at it as value if you put '--' before the data you are looking at. Hope it helps someone else too.

Goto RSA1 and double click on the infoObject. Goto the Business Explorer tab and see if you have selected the Key option there??

The data in Cube is also with ' ??

Is there anything new on this topic? I'm experiencing the same problem. I have SAP GUI 7.30 installed, in Analyzer I have set to show Key values only but I still get date as text in BEX Analyzer. Any idea how to solve this?
