How does Downtime Management monitor System availability?

Hello Gurus,

this is driving me nuts. I have a Solution Manager set up with satallite systems correctly listed in SMSY. However, I have no RFC connections enabled to these systems yet.

When I now go to Downtime Management, I have the system availability monitored correctly.

I really don't understand how this is working. I am sure it is not monitored by a CCMSPING Agent, because we havn't set it up yet.

Do you know how this is done? I cannot find any information about this. I am very curious.

    Hi

The system monitoring functions in SAP Solution Manager are based on the CCMS Monitoring Infrastructure.

I hope Availability monitoring done by CCMSPING only.

    can you chk this,

    [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/04c6d8ea-0c01-0010-698f-f670daea40a7|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/04c6d8ea-0c01-0010-698f-f670daea40a7]

    and also chk this

      Hi,

please do not get struggled with all that stuff...

1.) Downtime Management is not located in workcenter system-monitoring, but in the workcenter system landscape managment.

2.) Entering this workcenter, you see the availability monitoring status of your lanndscape systems (you are right: nothing configured --> all grey). That is OK.

3.) in workcenter system landscape management, navigating to downtime management (DTM), you see the DTM status of the systems: first green bubble: is there currently a downtime planned? second green bubble: component currently active (because there is no downtime scheduled). In my opinion, this is typical for SAP: looking through glasses and seeing.....

4.) perform a simple test: schedule one single downtime for one system and you will see the result!

      Kind regards,

      Dirk

    Hello Dirk,

thank you for your answer but I am afraid it is not very helpful.

The focus of my question ist not about Downtime Management in general. It is how the system availability in Downtime Management is technically realised.

      Hi Spaggi,

I cannot write it more clearly: NO CCMSPING --> NO INFO ABOUT AVAILABILITY.

If you havent done any CCMSPING configuring, the green bubbles will not show your availabilty of the systems, but the AVAILABILITY of PLANNING DOWNTIMES for these systems.

      Regards,

      Dirk
