Is it possible to unify a linked Universe

We are using a set of universes that are each linked to their own core universe, as the original Universes were not entirely suitable to our needs. However it seems that linked universes in Business Objects have numerous disadvantages which I wont go into, but is it possible to create a universe not linked to another universe from a linked universe and it's core universe so that all existing reports based on the original linked universe will still work ?

Sure, if I have understood your question correclty what you want to do is include everything from the linked universe permanently, correct? There's a standard feature for that. Open your derived universe, click to the parameters screen, and select the Links tab. Click on the currently linked-in universes and if my memory is correct there is a button named "Include" that should become available at that point. This will break the link and permanently include everything from the linked universe.

Yes that is exactly what I mean. We have a legacy of linked Universes on site and to me they seem to be vulnerable to corruption, we are frequently importing from one environment to fix problems in another. But I thought that a report based on a Universe would be tied to that particular one via the unique Cuids, if you' have ever deleted and recreated objects from a universe reports which access the recreated object will stop working.

So I have included the kernel universe into the derived universe to make one whole universe, then saved and exported under a different name. This means that I have the existing linked universe and the new universe with a complete new set of Cuids stored in the repository. Because of these conditions I thought that our existing reports based on the old linked universe would not be able to use the new Universe as none of the object cuids contained in the new universe would match those required by the reports. But tests so far show that they do work, which I find a bit confusing. Is there an explanation for this ? Or a handy document which will provide an in-depth explanation.

When you switch a Web Intelligence report from one universe to another, it connects everything by class and object name, not by ID. So you should be fine.

Are you sure that you're right about that ? If you deleted an object from a universes that a particular report uses and then recreate that object exactly as before you will find that the report no longer works, the query which accesses the recreated object generates an error. I know that this doesn't explain why I can combine a linked Universe, export it then swap the existing reports over to use the new universe But just as a matter of interest |I would like to find out more.
