Is BW/BI expertise required to know the exact workflow of SPM?

Hi All..,Do we need to have an full expertise of BI/BW to do an SPM implementation. AM basically a Spend management consultant working on Ariba Analysis. I asked this since i dont have much knowledge in BI. Also since i want to move into SAP side am much worried about this...
