If you do not want to create purchase groups, you can use stansard purchase groups. But it is mandatory to maintian a purchase order and other purchase documents.

Purchase groups is a employee or employees who are responsable for that purchase.

It it not possible to assign a purchase group to user. but you can make specific settings.

To restrict you can control with authiorization

There is no assignment of purchase group with purchase organisation. It is not possible.

Any purchase group may work for any purchase organisation.

    Hi

Purchase Group is an Independent Organization Unit which do not have any intervention with other.

You can use the purchase group to take advantages like

Reports and Analysis based on Purchase group

You have standard match code in SAP to search by purchase group (any master data, Documents and etc)

Even have better control of what you are buying and who is responsible for the purchase

You can have approval process of PR & PO and other purchasing document based on Purchasing group

You can have notification process by the Purchase group

If you do not want to have these advances or not required then yes you do not need to create purchase group at all, you can change the field selection to your document as suppress or optional

    Thanks

    Siva

Is it mandatory to create Purchasing Groups in SAP MM.

Yes, Purchasing groups are mandatory for purchasing activities , you can see the Org data tab in Purchasing Documents where we will enter Pur Org, Pur Group & Comp Code.

Also how to assign the user to respective groups in case we want to restrict thm from buying certain product groups.

The User & Purchase group assignment happens through Authorization roles, you need to create different Z* roles for the Combination of Purchase group & Mat group and assign them to user.

Is Pgrp assigned to Porg in anyways.

Purchase Group is a floating entry and you can not assign it to any org element.

    Hi,

Creation of purchasing group in very much vital & need to be created as purchase activities will be done by purchasing group (buyer or group of buyer) only.

Purchasing Group can be created and description as buyer name, with telephone number,e-mail ID and authorize his user ID( single buyer) for purchasing group Or Purchasing Group can be created and description as department and authorize users ID( more then one buyer) to purchasing group. Authorization control can be done in basis side.

Purchasing group is not assign to Purchase Organization. Purchase Organization is at client level and responsible for all purchasing activities but purchasing group is responsible for certain/specified particular respective purchasing activity.

    Regards,
