Hi Experts,
I am trying to create a report painter report for the standard report S_ALR_87013558. I would like to exclude few cost elements in the new report. Intially I tried this with by maintaining diff value category for those exluded cost elements but these cost elements are already defined in other value categories.
How would I exclude the cost elements in the new report

Create additional value categories. Move those cost elements from existing ones to the new ones you want to exclude. This would give you specific value categories with cost element groups you want to exclude from report.
Thanks.

have you tried using cost element groups?

First of all budgeting is not done based on cost element - it is just a value
So my assumption is that you want to use some cost elements for your plan and actual reporting along with the budget value
Use of value category is the correct way by using cost element groups
Once you have this set up you will get budget figures as unassigned, plan and actuals under the relevant value category group
