What happens to existing maintenance contracts under Appeon

I work for a software house. We have 4 licensed copies of PowerBuilder. We have had a maintenance contract with Sybase since PB5.0 which went over to SAP. With Appeon taking over the PowerBuilder product what happens to our maintenance contracts with SAP? Do they automatically rollover to Appeon or are they terminated and do we then need to reapply to Appeon? This question is pertinent in relation to Appeon announcing big discounts to people who pre-order before Dec 31 2016. Do we have to pre-order? Why should we not automatically get the best prices as existing registered users?

Can anyone point me to the answers to these and similar questions?

Hi Larry,

Existing SAP maintenance contracts do not automatically roll over to Appeon, and related to this point there are no free upgrades to the new PowerBuilder 2017 version that Appeon is currently working on. So if you want to get the new version or keep getting tech support after PB 12.6 is EOL then definitely do consider to purchase the new version from Appeon.

One nice thing is that the PowerBuilder pricing for the new versions made by Appeon have been changed to a subscription model. So even though you are purchasing a new license it should not be a big expense, and could even be less expensive than your current maintenance fees.

If you are going to purchase the new version, the pre-order offer is great way to save big because the special price is "grandfathered" - you can keep renewing at the same low price.

Thanks Armeen,

We have chosen to take advantage of the Appeon offer and have bought the new versions.

We do not see much point in renewing or extending our contract with SAP as we have not as yet moved to PB12.6 (we are still using PB12.5).

We look forward to what Appeon can do for the product.
