Select All / Deselect All option on BEx Web Variable Entry Screen

Hello Experts,

I have seen a few threads on this but I don't think there is a resolution, but thought I would ask. Does SAP provide a way to have a Select All / Deselect ALL option on BI web reports?

We are on BW 7.0 EHP1. We use the SAP Portal to publish our queries which via web templates created using the Web Application Designer. When the reports are executes, the user is prompted with a Variable Entry screen. If they select the drop down value list, the have a huge list of values. If the user wants to select all values, they have to manually click each and every line and select ADD.

In all other areas of SAP, there is a select all /deselect all option. Is there a way to get that on BI web template reports?

For some fields, users can just simply enter * to select all values. But the field that has issue is a authorization restricted value list. For example, the field Material. The field is auth relevant and they are restricted to a certain list. So users cannot enter * because they will get an authorization error.

Anyone find a way to solve this issue? Thanks!

Jose

All,

I just wanted to update this thread. We recently upgraded to NetWeaaver 7.3 and now there is a standard "Select All" option in the variable pop up F4 windows. So this issue is now resolved if you are on the latest NW version.

Thanks,

Jose

Leaving the field optional is also not an option because the field is auth relevant. If the user does not specify a value and leave it open, the system thinks the user wants to see everything (no restriction), which they are not allowed to see. They will get an authorization error.

There is a select all option on almost every screen in SAP. And the user also has the option in most fields to select *. Although it could be a performance issue in some cases,l the option should still be there. But when a user has an authorization restriction on a field, * cannot be used. value ranges also cannot be used in this case. For example, say a user only has access to Material A, B, C, J, K, and L. If the user does a value range of A - L, they will get an authorization error because they do not have access to every value in the range (they do no have access to D, E, F, G, H, or I).

Unfortunately this is not possible.

As a workaround you can have that variable as optional and if you do not enter any value, it would automatically select all.

As suggested by Vikram - If the Var has been defined as Optional will fetch all the values to generate the report

Ofcourse!! If user has such profiles he can't execute the report for all the ranges .. will catch authorization error!

If user has a way to select all that could impacts the system performance and has to wait long time to generate the report .. Probably it could be the reason why SAP has restricted such a way!

But you will have Variable ranges to select values in that range(no need to input all the values between the range)
