We have been experiencing some poor performance in our overnight jobs. We are exploring various avenues, one of which is database size. We currrently have 6% free space, and although auto extend is set on the tablespaces, such an expansion can cause performance issues.
Is there a recommendation for the minimum database free space for an R/3 system?
Is the recommendation the same for BW?
Anytime I have worked on Oracle, we have not used Auto_Extend but we keep the database at around 90%.
Can you confirm what the overnight jobs are doing?
Chris

Hi Chris,
The overnight jobs are reading from tables, performing calculations and appending to other tables. We are looking at indexes to help here, but of course they take up space. The spectre of archiving is also raising its head since that was put on hold a year ago.
My space question is because the jobs have suddenly started going slowly across the board rather than a gradual decline. As I said, we are looking at many angles, this just being one of them.
I thought that SAP recommended 10 to 20% free, but I cannot find it in writing.
Regards,
Ian.
