Smart Insights does not continue to drill down through the data on SAP Analytics Cloud, why?

When I select the "bulb" (smart insights options) for a specific data point on a bar graph, it will only show the first level and will not drill to next levels when I click on the "bulb" again within the smart insights window to the right. I assume this could be an issue with how the database is arranged. How or what should I change or look for in order to resolve this issue.

I have attached an image with the error message in spanish and a brief example of how the real data base is arranged.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

The reason you are not getting further insights is because of the lack of data after you have narrowed down on a particular data point. You will get the same result with the sample story that we provide (see attached) as well, but after drilling for more number of times. In your dataset, most dimension columns seems to be monotonous and to get better predictive results you would need more variety of data. sample-story.pngsteps-to-replicate.png

Thanks for your answer, Narashimman.

Although your appreciation is true for dimensions within columns B,C,J and K, the other four dimensions (columns D through G) have as much as 200 different categorizations. Do you have any suggestions as to how should we modify the database in order to enable the smart insights feature to work appropriately?

I have attached a couple of images of how the categorizations of the data base are structured and a short story I set up with an example of what insights could bring up in the right pane.

Thank for all your help! I´m a newbie and I´m having a hard time understanding this part of the smart feature. sac-db-example.jpgsac-layout-example.jpg

Luis,

Try using the "Smart Discovery" (let SAC build the story for you) and then try the smart insights feature to see if it makes any difference by allowing you to drill more number of times. Learn more here: https://www.sapanalytics.cloud/resources-smart-insights-vs-smart-discovery/

Also, your hierarchies doesn't matter as the data is flattened so as to provide you the smart insights.

It is difficult to suggest any alternatives without knowing more about your data. I recommend you to get in touch with your SAP Analytics Cloud Customer Success Manager if you know one.

Hi,

I think we need to drill up/down from chart 1st, then we can use smart insights for hierarchies.

Check SAP s Sample- Revenue Analysis story.

Thanks,

Gurudev

Thanks Gurudev. I have definately tried the database using hierarchies and although it works it has two implications that will not work for me:

1- The drill down is done within the same chart, which doens´t let you have a parallel analysis without having to build a separate chart.

2- I´m a newbie and I still have a very superficial knowledge of hierarchies. From what I have been able to see through trial and error it requires for all categorizations to be in one column, do you think if I use hierarchies the smart inshgts tool will work/drill better through the data base?

Thanks for your help.
