Oracle 9i /10g

I have some confusion, can you please clarify this for me.

On BO 6.5 version which is on windows, the universes are currently using the oracle 9i tns entries. and i am installing the 10g client, so now i have 9i and 10 g clients and tns entries.

Question 1: How will my universe know which is 9i and 10g, is it some thing through the TNS entries or do i need to have one more oracle_Home path set.

So the bottom line is do i need to have two oracle homes or do i need to have one path 10g path and all the 9i and 10g tns entries

neither Oracle nor BO support 2 oracle clients or 2 oracle homes on the same windows machine.

If you're installing 10g client on a machine with BO6.5 you have to make sure 2 things :

1. Bo 6.5 actualy works with 10g version you're planning to use.

2. That you overwrite 9.x install and make 10g the default Oracle_home on the box. (consult with your Oracle DBA for assistance on that).

If you install 10g correctly - you should have single tnsnames.ora file with all the original entries in it.
