staging DSO

Hi BI experts,

in realtime ,why we r putting Stagind DSO in between PSA and standard DSO,

i know staging dso we can retain the history of data ,if two record coming wit same key we can find in Staging DSO and actvation not required if write optimized DSO acts as a staging DSO,

y we reuired staging DSO ,why dont we update directly into consolidated DSO?is there is any possible reason?

if we update directly to std DSO we can reduce the data load time from source system.

plz answer am confusing with this,

Hi,

It is completely agreed that load direct standard DSO will reduce the time.

Staging DSO is kept to fullfil future requiremtns.

For fucture various reporting requirements data can be used from staging DSO (Transformation can be done on that and get that staged in other DSO/Cubes as per need).

Staging DSO provides replica of siurce system data (In orininal format without any major changes) so it can act as source in case we need full load or and data repair on standard DSO.

Staging DSO helps a lot in highly growing BW system for future requirements and modelling.

I hope it will help.

Thanks,

S

o.k fine chudary,

see PSA also stored the original data while we r being import from the source system,

and delta also possible with req basis ,same as write optimizes DSO,then y the saging DSO is required ?DSO ie write optimies DSO also suppot delta on Req basis as same as PSA

then wat is the signifivant features of staging layer? wat is the differ between them?

For one, it can be much easier to dig through a staging DSO to validate your data and where your load went wrong than it can be to dig through the PSA.

Also if you have multiple source systems, you may use a DSO to consolidate your data into one target before propagating further up the chain.

It is much more of a modeling preference. We prefer to isolate layers and ensure we have a persistent copy of the data at its most raw form in order to meet future requirements in an EDW scenario.

Look into SAP's LSA approach, which is the current best practice message from SAP on this topic.

Hello Natarajan,

Completely agree to Luther Blake. Its more about following best practices to better model the Warehouse.

Please refer [http://sapinsideronline.com/2009_BI_ADM_Orlando/files/BI2009_Doerpmund_introducing.pdf] for more information.

Hope this helps.
