Installing SAP HANA Express: "Start SAP HANA, express edition Server" FAILS

I have managed to do all the steps succesfully, right up to Step 10: Complete the installation. When I get prompted to Proceed with configuration? I enter Y. Then I wait for the success message Congratulations! SAP HANA, express edition 2.0 is configured.

But before that message shows, the script ends with an error.

I have created a VM with name hxexsa. I changed the setting for this VM to use 32GB memory and 4 cores. My PC has 32GB memory and 6 cores.

I follow the tutorial. Change the Keyboard and Timezone. Enter a password using letters and numbers only (8 characters long) and reach Stage 10, where I have to "Proceed with configuration (Y/N)". Then I enter Y, and wait...

The script exits with this message:

After this, I cannot continue, because everytime I start the VM, it continues at the point where I need to enter the master password for the HANA database...

And then it fails with the following message:

Any ideas to get past this point are most welcome... I have spend too much time on this already.

Finally... Fixed.

So many people had NO issues with setting up SAP Express and I could not find the answer to my problem. And that's just it then, eh? My problem... So it must be something to do with the user. Something 'special'. Yup, this time, that user is me.

I am not certain, but the problem might have been caused by my Netgear Access Point. When I connected to the internet, I frequently got connection issues. Errors like "ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED", then the page reloaded and everything was 'fine'. I fixed that issue by resetting the AP to factory settings and setting it up from scratch. And with that, those connection problems were gone.

Now, I do find it strange, because I cannot understand why the installation of the VM would depend on a stable WIFI, all the time the setup is running. But hey, I am not going to try it again. It works now! Maybe it will help others with the same problem.

If you see the log file, you will see that the error message is because the HANA service is already running.

You need to run "HDB stop" and start over again.

Hi Manuel!

Thanks for this. I do not know if that was 'exactly' the solution, because I could only try again today. Didn't have the time before. And today, with your comment in mind, I just started up the VM again and continued where I failed before (entering the master password again). I did not yet try the HDB stop command, just continued. This time, I didn't get the "Failed to change hardware key"-error. Instead, it just moved on with the installation. No errors. Woohoo!

My guess is that yes, services were still running, even when closing and restarting the VM. It just needs quite some time to REALLY close and end everything. Today (weekend in between) I started the VM, changed the master password and now I already got further than before.

Now I am at:

Login to XSA services...

Check/Wait for Cockpit app to start...

That will take a while. I think it can take up to 30 minutes. But it's looking good so far.

Thanks!

EDIT: Unfortunately, this was not the reason. The installation keeps crashing at different stages. The reason for this is not the script, nor my computer. As described in the answer, the issue was caused by the internet connection (WIFI).
