Sending coupon via email in SAP Marketing Cloud

Hi experts,

I'm trying to create a coupon in SAP Marketing Cloud and to send it via an email campaign to different contacts. No external system is included in this case, everything is managed by SAP Marketing Cloud.

I've provided the image of my scenario below. I have a problem when I'm trying to create offer block in the email, I couldn't find my coupon, that I had attached to the offer previously.

Does somebody have experience with this? And is this right way to work with coupons(in my scenario described at the beginning) from SAP Marketing Cloud?

Hi Valentina,

When adding a coupon to an email, you do not assign the coupon directly, rather you must assign the offer to which the coupon is assigned. To do this, you must use an offer block (if the offer has no target groups assigned), and under “Offer Content,” you can assign the content for offer that you have assigned the coupon to. Remember that the content must have the communication medium Email. If the offer you would like to add to the email has target groups, then you must use the offer recommendation block, in which you can assign a scenario.

Therefore, when building an email you will not see an option to add coupons, but rather offers.

I hope this answers your question.

Warm Regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your answer, it's the process of sending coupons that I assumed! Therefore, I did like you said and eventually I delivered an email with a coupon code. The part where I'm confused is, how SAP Marketing Cloud knows does somebody redeem code from email. I mean, without an external system how is possible to have information about coupon code redemption in SAP Marketing Cloud?

Hi Valentina,

There must be an external system involved somewhere. SAP Marketing cloud only handles the distribution of the coupons. Our system does not handle the generation, validation, redemption, or price calculation. When a customer uses the coupon code in a store or online shop, the POS system must be able to check the validity and price calculation for the code from an external system. SAP Marketing Cloud only knows if and when a coupon has been redeemed. When a coupon is redeemed, an interaction is created which is read and tallied by our system. If you have set a limit for the coupon code usage, Marketing Cloud knows to stop the distribution of the codes once the usage tally has reached your desired limit.

Perhaps you could try to explain your scenario in more detail and we could help you further.

Best Regards,

Ryan

Here are some images which try to outline to entire process. Maybe they will help make it clear.

Dear Valentina,

Please follow the help page for Manage Coupons and sub-pages.

Hi Kunal,

Unfortunately, these pages deal with how to use the Manage Coupons app and not how to use coupons when building emails.

Hi Ryan,

I've created code in SAP Marketing Cloud by importing it, for one coupon I chose multiple codes option.

You want to say that this scenario will not work out (codes created in SAP Marketing initially), if the codes aren't created in some external system?

Valentina

Hi Valentina,

Here is a help page pertaining to coupon codes: Coupon Codes

These are the four methods for adding codes in Marketing Cloud. If I am understanding you correctly, you said that you chose "Multiple Coupon Codes" and that you imported them. This should mean that they were actually generated by an external system. Is this correct? Which method did you use?

Hello Ryan,

I understand what you are saying. Yes, that was my scenario, I created a coupon, attached a coupon to the offer and then added to email in order to deliver coupon code. That is clear to me. But from the moment when the customer received a coupon code, I don't know how things are going. Do you know which system (kind of system, is that can be SAP Commerce Cloud?) bringing back information about code redemption to SAP Marketing Cloud? I would appreciate if you have any example of it!

Hi Valentina,

Can I ask you where you created your code? Because SAP Marketing Cloud does not handle code creation, only distribution. You can attach coupon codes to your coupon in Marketing Cloud by importation, upload, or manually typing them in, but these codes must had been generated in an external system. You are correct that this system could be SAP Commerce, but it could also be a different system, depending on your preference. Without the external system, there is no way for a POS to conduct price calculation (e.g., 10% off, free shipping, etc.) or check for validity. This is handled by the external system.

Best Regards,

Ryan
