Ravi,

There are dozens of different flavors of Availability checking. Here are two.

ATP

Situation: No stock on hand of Finished Goods. One existing Production order for Finished Goods for 100 widgets due to be completed on September 1.

Customer enters a Sales order for 500 widgets, requested delivery for August 10. During the order entry process, the system automatically performs ATP. System looks for stock to fill the order. Nothing. System looks for existing Production orders or Purchase orders. Finds the aforementioned Production order with 100 available. System confirms the sales order item: 100 widgets for delivery on September 1, the balance of 400 confirmed for lead time at December 1.

GATP

The above scenario can be duplicated exactly, since GATP contains all the ATP functionality of R/3. So, here is a slightly different version:

Situation: No stock on hand of Finished goods. No existing production orders.

Customer enters a Sales order for 500 widgets. during the order entry process, the system automatically performa ATP. System looks for stock to fill the order. Nothing. System searches for existing Production orders. Nothing. System searches for available manufacturing capacity, and finds the first unoccupied capacity (adequate to build 500 widgets) that can be used to fulfill the sales order. System automatically creates a planned order, finitely schedules the planned order for 500 widgets, with a due date of September 7, which consumes the manufacturing capacity, and confirms the Sales order item to September 7.

Dear

ATP is available to promise.there are1)availbility check according to ATP logic and 2)against planned ind reqt

1.n the check according to ATP logic, the system checks whether the dependent requirements of each component are covered by specific receipt and issue elements or by stock. This check is carried out dynamically, that is, each time you carry out the check, the system recalculates the current situation. If a quantity can be committed for the requirement date, the system enters precisely this quantity as the committed quantity in the dependent requirements and the ATP quantity for the components is reduced by the committed quantity. Therefore, in the next availability check, dependent requirements can only be committed for the amount of the remaining ATP quantity.

The results of the check are displayed as follows:

  • as a missing parts list for the planned order (Availability check: Overview)

  • as either a missing parts list or a missing parts overview for the production order

2.Availability Check Against Planned Independent Requirements

GATP : Matching Supply and Demand with Global Available-to-Promise

The Global Available-to-Promise (ATP) component uses a rules-based strategy to ensure you can deliver what you promise to your customers.

Global ATP performs multilevel component and capacity checks in real time and in simulation mode to ensure that you can match supply and demand.

It can also perform these ATP checks against aggregated, memory-resident data for even better performance

Please refer Building block of GATP, you will able to get systimatic way how to use GATP functionality in R/3 and APO as well as what are the settings require for it.

Hope this is clear

Ravi,

ATP stands for 'Available to Promise'. It is SAP's term for the process whereby a requirement is checked to determine whether the requirement can be met, usually by checking for adequate supply elements. SAP also refers to this as "Availability checking". This feature is widely used in Sales order processing (determining the dates that a customer will get his material). It is also used within manufacturing to determine the availability of component parts for a manufacturing order. Below the help on SD ATP. ATP in Materials Management is similar.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/93/744b51546011d1a7020000e829fd11/frameset.htm

GATP (Global Available to Promise) is SAP's suite of ATP solutions found in the SCM (Supply Chain Management) product. GATP includes all of the standard ATP checks found in ERP, but also includes additional methods.

I have heard many people refer to Rules Based ATP from SCM as 'GATP', but RBA is only a small part of GATP.

Dear Ravi,

I think ATP & GATP are comes in different sap product as given below.

ATP - SAP R/3.

GATP - SCM APO.

In sap R/3 ATP means availble to promise. To sale the material we required the sales order & to produce the same material we required the production order. So at both sales order & productio order, we can check the availability of the material for delivery and child bom component for producing the parent material repectively.

SAP SCM APO is the advance tool of the planning that we can do in SAP R/3 PP. So there meaning of GATP that i feel has global available to promise. That you can confirm with APO module.
