ECC 6.0 EHP - VMWare Sphere Compatibility

Hi Community,

I am working with a customer that is currently using ECC 6.0 EHP5 with heavy customization. They are currently reviewing 2 different deployment scenarios, both involving VMWare:

1. Standard production server with a VMWare backup that must be manually activated in the event of a failure.

2. VMWare Sphere backup cluster server that automatically engages in the event of a failure with zero data loss.

I am not super technical, but I have done some research on the best practices for this deployment, and both seem possible, but please correct me if I am wrong.

What I am looking to know is:

1. Will their current version of ECC 6.05 EHP5 with heavy customization work on either of these models?

2. They are currently using Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit OS and SQL 2008. Which version of each of these will they need to upgrade to to make either option work? I am fairly certain that Windows Server 2008 is no longer supported.

If I have not been terribly clear, or you need to me to seek additional information, please let me know, and I will be happy to expand!

Hi Chris,

Scenario 1 is same as building a near line DR with some data loss/business outage.

Scenario 2 is enabling cluster using available infrastructure and technology.

Ideally scenario 2 should be implemented first and then 2 to have maximum availability.

On supported version of OS and Database - Take a look at PAM

Hello,

we would need to know more in detail, which two solutions you are describing, so what do you want to utilize for option one and option two. After we know that, we can give you a better answer.

In regards of the used SAP release, if this release is supported on the chosen OS and the OS has VMware support, normally everything else is possible. But again, we need to have more information what you are planning.
