Combining ECC tables, non-SAP tables in Universe Designer

Hello -

We have a need to join specific ECC tables and non-SAP tables (complex); hence, thinking of Universe Designer.

Reporting is via Crystal, but because of the complex nature of the joins, we are eliminating the ECC connector option for Crystal.

We understand that there is a ECC ABAP connector still in prototype phase, and not for productive use; hence, eliminated

We would prefer not to bring data into BW physically, or virtually.

Having said this, is there any other option for joining ECC and

Ex. Connecting to ECC at the Oracle DB level : Is this advisable.

Thanks

What kind of SAP system are you trying to get data from? ERP or CRM?

Hi Abhi,

Have you considered and do you have access to an ETL tool, such as BO Data Services (BODS, formerly BODI) for this? This would allow pulling data from both data sources and merging into one central source, which you could then use either by Crystal, or by Universe Designer.

I am pretty sure that Universe Designer is not currently capable of using multiple data sources in one Universe. Although you could build two Universes, one from each source and then use both in Web Intelligence (not sure if that can be done in Crystal).

Thanks

There is no option in crystal reports to merge the two data sources in to single.

But you can do it in webi level by combining two data sources in to single webi report and build a two queries on the two data sources and merge the queries in the reporting level by using the merge dimension options. And then build a report.Schedule the report and produce it to a excel file(for example) .Creates a simple data services job to create a table from the excel file.schedule the job in Data services to produce a table and import that table in to your repository. Now build the universe based upon the table in the repository, save and export the universe.now build a crystal report based upon the Universe.

This is one possible solution.
