Hi experts,

I have downloaded the migration guide from Service Market place, for BO 6.5 to XI 3.1 and trying to understand the steps. To make it simple I would like to someone help me simplify the steps in 1, 2, 3, 4....and possibly a checklist to make sure that i have not missed anything. Thanks a bunch in anticipation.

Kumar

Migration guide is really all you need to be able to migrate.

in simple steps it looks like this :

1. Run scan/repair/compact on the 6.5 repository

2. Install Xi3.1 on a separate box.

3. On a machine where Supervisor is installed install Xi3.1 client tools

4. Run import wizard on machine from #3 to import Users/reports/universes from 6.5 into Xi3.1

5. Test migrated reports and universes and apply security to groups in Xi3.1

Denis,

Thanks very much. May I know what kind of challenges encountered/expected? How long it took to complete the migration?

Appreciate it.

Time depends on the size of the repository, size of the deployment, hardware specs of the components involved.

Challenges can be many and also depend on configuration and health of source and destination environments.

What are the differences between migration from 6.5 to XI 3.1 over migration from 6.5 to XI 3?

Hi Kumar, I believe XI3 is probably referring to XI3.0. You want to migrate to the latest version which is XI3.1 SP3.

By the way, 6.5 is under an entirely different architecture than XI. Therefore, you need to make sure you plan it out thoroughly. Make sure you have set up a separate test environment for the XI3.1 SP3. Then migrate the contents over, test it out thoroughly and fix any report issue.

Also, I recommend you to design and set up the user security from scratch.

Hope this helps.
