sap businessobjects virtual server snapshot

Hello Friends,

We don't have a dev environment for our businessobjects system.

Is it possible to take a snapshot of our BOBJ production VM box and copy it to

another new VM box? I can change the FRS and CMS database to point to the new dev locations.

What changes I would need to make mainly for the tomcat to point the URL

to the dev box? What else would I need to consider?

Thanks

Abdul

Not a good idea. The CMS database, as well as the server's local configuration, contains references to all nodes in the cluster. When you bring up the duplicated environment, it will try to cluster itself with the production server.

You'd be better off installing the software fresh, then using PM to migrate the content from the production server.

Thanks for your answers. I was thinking from the point of view of a short cut to new install and content migration.

if you can have a separate CMS DB and FRS already - why not simply install product from scratch on a new VM ?

cloning and/or runing snapshots of existing systems is not supported by SAP.

    Hi Abdul,

We actually work with shadow copy or cloning SAP BI / SAP CrystalServers enviroment in onPremise and also in AWS env. till moment just u need to look your hosts file entries (for IP changes or hostname changes), all of this without any problem at all.

Installing BI from scratch a BIG one enviroment is not a most optimal and fast way, at least, nor for a production and core enviroment.

btw, is not supported by SAP, but atm (at least in AWS- using AMIS) cloning or Snapshot enviroments is nowdays the most compact and fastest way to restore or create a dev or test enviroment.
