Remodeling Infocube - adding characteristic fails

Dear experts

I am using the remodeling function for the first time and want to add a characteristic to a dimension. I want to populate the characteristic with the attribute of another characteristic in the same dimension. However, when I simulate the remodeling rule, I get the error that Existing DTPs/transformations might have been deactivated and the rule is thereafter unable to convert the infoprovider and the simulation fails with returncode 1. Can you provide any insights as to why this happens?

Prior to populating with an attribute, I simulated populating with a constant. This simulation was successful but I decided to change the rule afterwards to populate by attribute.

I appreciate your inputs to fix this problem. We run SAP BW 7.5; no HANA.

Thank you

Hi Clemens,

I do not know the answer, but I have a sugguestion:

Why not make the attribute a navigation attribute, and save yourself a lot of effort?

Hi John

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The reason why your suggestion will not solve my issue is that I need a couple of navigational attributes from the characteristic I am trying to populate.

In the end, I solved it by creating a copy cube and load it 1-to-1 from the cube I wanted to change. I then deleted all data and added the new characteristic in the original cube and finally I loaded data back from the copy cube to the original cube while populating the new characteristic in the process.

The original cube contained around 20 million records and not critical data. I suppose the above solution should not be used with critical data or for cubes with a lot of records.

In case anyone have some knowledge as to how to use remodeling correctly, I would appreciate any insights. I have followed this guide.

Thank you.
