Installation of Dialog Instance (DI) - Error during installation...

Hello gurus,

System: SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 (ABAP+JAVA) -- Central Instance (CI)

Database: MS SQL Server 2008

Operation System: Windows Server 2003 X64

I´m trying to install a Dialog Instance (DI) but during the SAPInst I´m faccing with an error!

First at all I made some things/requirements in this new server like:

- Install J2SDK;

- Set Swap space (20 Gb);

- Install SQL Server 2008 x64.

So, after that, I run SAPInst with the following option: "SAP ERP 6.0 Support Release 3 --> Software Life-Cycle Options --> Application Server --> MS SQL Server --> Dialog Instance"

The error is on the screen "MS SQL Server --> Database Connection Information" when I put in field "Database Instance" the value (in my case I write PTREPRDPRD which are the hostname of CI server and the sap instance PRD), after I typing the button "Next" it shown a message error which say:

"Cannot connect to PTREPRDPRD Error(s) returned: SQL Server does not exist or access denied. SOLUTION: Check that you specified the correct name for the database server, that the server is running and you are authorized to log on to it."

Can you help me how to resolve this problem!??

Kind regards,

Joao Dimas - Portugal

    Check that the name and IP are populated on the hosts file. If the instalation cant resolve the host name of your CI is not going to work

    • Hello Juan Reyes,

      I install only the SNAC software on the future instance dialog instance (DI) server!

      I put an entry of the IP address and hostname (of the CI server) in the host file of the windows in which I am facing the error (DI server). In host file I put the IP address then hostname of the DB server which is the same server of where is installed SAP System (Central Instance).

      When I ping both servers in each server, everything is OK!

      Note: These two servers (CI/DB Server and the DI) are not registered in domain, both servers are only registered as Local machines!

      Any other tips?

      Kind regard,

      Joao Dimas - Portugal

    Please check the network connection of your DB server from the application server. Whether you are able to ping the server or not.

    Make the entry of the IP address and hostname in the host file of the window in which you are facing the error. In host file put Ip address then your fully qualified host name of the DB server and then hostname without domain name.

    Please let us know if this resolves the issue or not.

    • Hello Anil Bhandary,

      Yeah they are!

      The CI server is 172.31.20.18 and DI server is 172.31.20.19... as you can see both are on same IP range!!

      Kind regards,

    Please post lines corresponding to the error (last 40-50 lines) from sapinst_dev.log for help in analysis.

    Cheers!!

    Have you installed the MS-SQL client on the application server? If yes, can you connect to database through client?
