A DWS consists of the employees Break Schedule and tells from what time to what time does the mployee needs to work or will be working with the break schedule defined for the employee....
Just read thru the SAP help and you will find good documentaion on all these... this is basics of TIME management.
DWS Variant allows you to define several different versions of the same daily work schedule.
You can use variants to define shorter working hours on Fridays or on days preceding public holidays, for example, or to indicate that absence hours should be calculated according to the average daily working time.
You can create DWS Variant Rule with Variant A to assign saturdays half day work schedule without creating a new DWS. Similarly you can also create variants to apply rules on days preceding public holidays. The system dynamically applies these rules when that rule situation/condition arise.
You can create different DWS variant rules using different variants and check its result to understand it better.
