MDM Console Not Prompting for Password Change

Former Member

Hi Experts,

We are currently using MDM 7.1. We have set the following parameter in the system:

Password Expiration Days=90

Users that haven't changed their password within 90 days correctly receive a message stating "Repository Connection Failed. Error: Password Expired". However, after clicking the "OK" button, it doesn't prompt the users to change their password.

Basically, the system recognizes the password has expired but does not allow the users to change it, so they cannot login. Any thoughts about why this is happening or how to resolve the issue?

Thanks,

Doug

Hi,

in MDM Console have you what setting you have kept for user i.e is

User Must Change Password : Yes/No

It should be set as "YES" hope this will resolved your problem even if you have same issue let me know

Hi Jignesh,

When we first create a user, we set the "User Must Change Password" field to "YES". However, once the user logs in the first time, that value is automatically updated to "NO".

After 90 days, the password for the user expires, but the user cannot login through the Console since he/she does not receive the prompt to change the password. This behavior only exists in the Console.

For the Import Manager and Data Manager, the same user receives the warning message that the password has expired. However, it prompts the user to change the password and can then login to the system.

It doesn't seem reasonable that we would need to manually set the "User Must Change Password" field to "YES" again after 90 days to ensure the user receives the change password prompt.

Thanks,

Doug

Hi Douglas

The password change feature has been provided for MDM rich clients like Data manager and Import manager which are used for managing the data.

MDM console being more of administrative tool has not been provided for changing the passwords for the users.

Why do users need access to MDM console? Only developers, project team should have access to MDM console as guideline.

Though I am not sure what are the exact requirements here.

Hope this helps-Ravi

Hi Ciolli

in MDS.ini file two setting available i.e is

Password Expiration Days : Number. The number of days an MDM useru2019s password is to remain valid, after which it must

be changed.

Password Expiration Warning : Number. The number of days in advance that an MDM user is to be warned their password is

about to expire.

Once warning days get over than in MDM Change password screen appear in all MDM GUI client including MDM Console

Hi Ravi,

Thanks for the information. You are correct -- we only have a limited population of users (BASIS, Security, Developers, Project Team) that use the Console. However, our company mandates that all users must have their passwords expire after 90 days in any Production system.

From reading your explanation, we will direct all MDM users to reset their password using the Import or Data Manager clients instead of the Console once they receive the warning message that their password has expired.

Thanks!

Doug
