Can I use standard BOM without generating production orders

Good Morning,

I have a question with relation to products and BOM. If I create a BOM so that single components can be booked out separately and it doesn't allocate it on a reservation like a production order would should I need to what is the easiest method. I am coming up with a struggle for the simple reason production orders in SAP hold stock to a reservation and I don't need that to happen for the team. Can anyone advise. All issues go through MIGO so they are not "sales" per say. We are a local government so costing is normally internal for these type of items.

For what reason do then need a BoM at all?

We are creating "kits" this is for the use of staff. It will save significant time as they currently have to manually write out a paper req with all components/materials on it. This is due to audit and movement process and is very hard to adjust.

If they had a BoM they would only need to book the one number and then the BoM would do the rest so save time and inputting effort. Additionally and more importantly prevent typing errors from paper to MIGO.

      Thanks for the quick response

A BoM is in general just master data, you can't reference movements directly to a BoM in MIGO. You reference a BoM when you create a production order or subcontract order, and then you reference the order when you do MIGO.

With the old MB1A transaction you can reference a BoM via menu Goods Issue > post with reference > bill of material.

But this old transaction is already announced to be removed as the replacement with MIGO happened already with 46c release, so I would not build new solutions on that basis.

    Hello

Your requirement is not actually clear for me.

If you don't need to have a reservation generated for the production order components, you can try to set the 'bulk material' indicator for the components.

Thank you, a production order allocates the stock to a reservation which is not what we want as we need to also have them as seperate components which a BoM would do. Yes Jurgen I believe you're correct I might have to create a new goods receipt method.

Might alternative would be stock a kit and the components so I carry both.
