BPC MS 7 SP4
Hi Experts,
For a reporting issue, I need to create a hierarchy with two dimensions. Let say Account and Cost Center on this way:
CostCenter_1
Account_1
Account_2
Account_3
CostCenter_2
Account_1
Account_2
Account_3
Also it is needed to keep the 2 dimensions, but having the possibility expand this two as one.
What I tried was, create a new account hierarchy on the Account Dimension and fill it with a logic script, as follow:
Account_1 (original)
Account_2 (original)
Account_3 (original)
CC1_Accoun1
CC1_Accoun2
CC1_Accoun3
CC2_Accoun1
CC2_Accoun2
CC2_Accoun3
The problem, besides the maintenance, is it doesnu2019t modify the original combinations between accounts and cost centers (which are the ones using on the process). I tried to create logic to modify the original ones, but It doesnu2019t work properly due the other logics we use.
Anyone knows a way to create a hierarchy using 2 dimensions? Any idea will be of help.
Thank you very much.
Iria
Hi Iria,
The first thing is that in BPC, you cannot have compounding of multiple dimensions. So, the requirements has to be taken care by either hierarchies in a single dimension or through the reporting features or through script logics.
However, before suggesting anything, I would request you to define your scenario once again. I had gone through your posts. But, somewhere got confused. Please let us know how exactly you want the report to be seen. How is your current configuration?

Hi Iria & all,
I have the same problem as Iria does, if I understood correctly. In our model, we created two dimensions Account and Cost Centre as follows:
Account
(Input accounts)
Net Sales
Material
Salary
Expense
(Calculated accounts)
COGS
Direct Labour
Marketing
G&A
Cost Centre
CC1 Marketing
CC2 G&A
CC3 Direct Labour
Because our P&L is by functional, so we want to create a hierachy using these two dimensions, so that by EVDRE we could drill down to the input accounts level like below (and also to be able to use the suppress functionality)
INP ***** Net Sales
CAL***** COGS
INP***** - Material
CAL***** - Direct Labour
INP***** - - Salary (CC3)
CAL***** Marketing
INP***** - Salary (CC1)
INP***** - Expense (CC1)
CAL***** G&A
INP ***** - Salary (CC2)
INP ***** - Expense (CC2)
Is there a way in BPC of doing this?
Many thanks in advance

I don't think I understood the issue.
Why the nested expansion is not solving the issue for your report.
For sure you don't have to create a new dimension just because you need a specific report.
Any report can be created without changing the application.
And any way it is not a good practice to change the structure of an application just because it is easier to create a report.

Maybe it is not well anderstanding, but the hierarchy will have the CosteCenters as parents of the accounts:
CostCenter_1
######### Account_1
######### Account_2
######### Account_3
CostCenter_2
######### Account_1
######### Account_2
######### Account_3
Thanks.

Hi,
If I am not mistaken you want to add two dimension as cost center and having following accounts.
If you are trying to add 2 account then it will violate the BPC account based model.
Instead you can design this way so that Cost center3 also has all the dimension members.
ID ParentH1 ParentH2
CostCenter_1
Account_1 CostCenter_1 CostCenter_3
Account_2 CostCenter_1 CostCenter_3
Account_3 CostCenter_1 CostCenter_3
CostCenter_2
Account_1 CostCenter_2 CostCenter_3
Account_2 CostCenter_2 CostCenter_3
Account_3 CostCenter_2 CostCenter_3
CostCenter_3
One more solution would be to add it as a CC3 as a parent of CC1 and CC2.
Hope it helps

Thanks Raman for your reply.
But actually our problem is, we have Cost Center and Account on 2 different dimensions, so, the new hierarchy will be feed up by script logic, but it not allow to the users to input any data on the new hierarchy and feed up the dimensions Cost Center and Account.
ORIGINAL DIMMENSIONS UPLOAD BY FLAT FILE AND CONSOLIDATED:
COST CENTER:
CostCenter 1
CostCenter 2
ACCOUNT:
Account 1
Account 2
NEW HIERARCHY MADE ON ACCOUNT OR COSTCENTER, FED UP BY THE PREVIOUS DIMENSIONS:
CostCenter1
·········· Account 1.1
·········· Account 1.2
CostCenter2
·········· Account 2.1
·········· Account 2.2
The normal way of work it will be to send data to the sencond hierarchy by a script, but some times, the user must introduce a data on the second hierarchy, and the original Cost Center and Account Dimmensions must be modify.
A script to send back the data on the second case, generate a circular caculations of the default logic, making a wrong calculations.
Because of that, I wonder how can I make a hiearchy with 2 dimmensions????
Thanks and regards.
