Currency and Groups Dimensions in Legal Consolidation, BPC 7.5

Dear BPC Experts:

I am using BPC 7.5 NW SP03, and building Legal Consolidation now. According to the SAP Library,http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bpc75_nw/helpdata/en/bpc_nw_index.htm, it says in 7.5, the currency and groups dimension are required and should hold currency members and consolidation members seperately. I have couple of questions about this design.

1. Are GROUPS and CURRENCY dimensions both included in Legal Consolidation Application at the same time?

2. How to move data in currency diemnsion into corresponding members in GROUPS dimension?

For example: THe GROUPS member, CG1(its currency is USD). How to let data in currency USD move to CG1.

3. In Legal Consolidation data package, should I modify the prompt dimension from CURRENCY_DIM into GROUP_Dim?? cause 7.5 has CURRENCY dim in its package setting at default. However, the consolidation package is based on GROUP perspectives.

Does anyone give me any idea in it? I really appreciate your help.

Best Regards,

Fred Cheng

    Hi Fred,

Only if you want to consolidate your results in multiple currencies, under single Entity structure, you would need both Currency & Group dimension in your application.Else, you can use only Groups dimension in your consolidation application

    HI Collet,

Thanks for your response. As this is littke bit confusing, Could you please eloborate more on the following? Especially after changes in BPC 7.0 vs BPC 7.5 NW. I have gone trhough hep.sap.com also.

    1. When to use Rpt Currency alone

    2. When to use Group stand alone?

    3. When to use both Rpt Currency and Group?

We are currently performing Managerial Consolidation(For me it looks like LEGAL though).

Many thanks for your response once again. Highly appreciates that

      Hi

I was typically facing the same issue and resolved the same successfuly. Kindly esnure that you have updated the ownership details in ONWENERSHIP appset. One of the prerequsite for the group currency translation is you need to update the ownership details and if you are entering the data manaully ensure that you run the DM process chanin for OWNERSHIPCALC successfully. Unless this is done you will continue to get this error.

In BPC 7.5NW, the official recommended implementation is to separate Group (type G) and Currency (type R).

Group dimension should at least contain GROUP_CURRENCY which indicate the reporting currency of the group, (usually) PARENT_GROUP which indicate the hierarchy of the groups, CURRENCY_TYPE indicate whether it is a non-group or group member.

For currency translation, ENTITY and STORE_ENTITY is used to post data to consolidation entities, STORE_GROUP_CURR indicates whether translated data is only stored on groups instead of non-group, STAGE_ONLY indicates whether the data will be posted to parent groups according to PARENT_GROUP.

Currency dimension should contain CURRENCY_TYPE which indicates whether it's local currency or not.

If you choose to use one unified dimension as of BPC 7.0NW, then Currency dimension is required and also the attributes mentioned in Group dimension.

Btw, in BPC 10.0 NW, unified Currency dimension is no longer supported.

      David,

you mentioned back in 2011 that in BPC 10.0 NW, unified Currency dimension is no longer supported. But how are we going to migrate from BPC 7.5 NW to BPC 10.0 NW all the applications already having a unified Currency dimension. The models were built this way based on the fact that SAP BPC allowed the choice not to use both dimensions in Consolidation models.

We did migrate from BPC 7.5 NW to BPC 10.0 NW, and Consolidation package fail.

Please do advise, if there is a way to carry on with the migration without having to alter the entire model.

      Thank you.
