Error: Failed to Instantiate Data Source in Design Studio 1.6 SP4

Hi,

while working on PRD system I am unable to see any data while selecting edit initial view option in design studio 1.6 SP4, it shows error: "Failed to instantiate data source".

Error Log:

while checking the Query in RSRT for that data source it is hitting a standard breakpoint.

There it shows error: Query cannot be released for OLE DB for OLAP connection.

Now in Query designer, I have checked if the option Release for OLE DB for OLAP is ticked it will hit the breakpoint in RSRT and if it is unticked there will be no dump. There are some operators like %GT, SUMGT, and LEAF are used in the query. If these are removed the issue might get resolved.

But While checking it with the client, he told me that earlier the query was running fine and he was able to see the data in that Dashboard, furthermore, the query was also not changed then how this can be possible that the data which is reflecting earlier is not visible in a couple of months. Now the client is not allowing to make changes to Query as earlier the data is visible.

I am stuck at this point, please help me as to how should I proceed further, is it a basis issue or a BW issue or a BO issue. Please help.

Regards,

Apoorva

Hi,

As per my knowledge and experience with Design studio you do not have to release the query for OLE DB.This setting is only required when you access queries in WebI/Crystal .

You can directly consume the query in design studio without using the above setting.

Hope this helps

Hi Apoorva,

a BW query with the SUMRT, SUMGT, %GT etc operators cannot be released for OLE DB for OLAP. The query will never generate. This is actually an old restriction, see SAP Note: 820925 MDX Restrictions.

Hi Nora,

Thank you for your response. My issue is resolved although, by unticking the option Release for OLE DB for OLAP in Bex. But as per my knowledge Release for OLE DB for OLAP should be enabled to see a query for further Analysis in tools like design studio. How is this possible that disabling that option leads to display me the data in the tool?
