I need your help in understanding the possibilities in using milestone billing plan.

• Can there be multiple and different line items for a milestone billing plan ?

•Can “Advance payment ” be considered as a milestone ?

Yes without PS integration also, you can have this functionality with a Milestone Billing Plan Contract

Yes possible. Refer Q14 of OSS note 213567

The main point of milestone billing items is to tie them to a WBS or NWA in PS and let the project determine the date of the milestone. On the Sales Order you generate a billing plan from the milestones tied to the project. Until the NWA is confirmed the billing item will be blocked for payment. Also as the project is rescheduled the milestones will move and the billing plan can be updated with the new dates. You can have many milestones in the project. Yes, you could create a milestone tied to the beginning of the project for an "advance payment". You need to check with accounting on the treatment of an advance payment they usually can't be treated as revenue and need to be held on the balance sheet..
