Generating crystal reports using vb6 (Windows), Crystal Reports 2008 SP1

Hi,

I have been using vb6 windows application and generated crystal reports using Crystal reports 8.5 version .

Now we wanted to generate the crystal reports using crystal reports 2008 SP1 and Office 2010 but came to know after going through some of the SAP forums that "Crystal has dropped the RDC (CRAXDRT and CRAXDDRT) in ver 12 or CR2008. There is no support for a COM based application in CR2008. "

My existing application has references to CRAXDRT in it.

Please suggest me as to which version of crystal reports should i install on my machine so that it

satisfies the following criteria.

1. Should be able open and read .accdb files (Access files)

2. Should be able to make use of CRAXDRT

Thanks in Advance.

Hello,

The last version of Crystal Reports that ships with the Report Designer Component (RDC) is Crystal Reports XI R2 (v11.5) Developer edition. The RDC has been retired with the release of CR2008. There is no expectation that CR2008 reports will run in a VB6 application.

For CR2008 the suggested migration path is to move to the CR.NET SDK. There are "sticky posts" at the beginning of the .NET Development - Crystal Reports forum () that list getting started resources for the CR.NET SDK.

CR XI R2 has reached End of Life. You will have to contact the SAP Americas Sales Department to see if CR XI R2 is still available. You can start at the SAP BusinessObjects web site (http://www.sap.com/sapbusinessobjects). The answer to the availability question is beyond the scope of these forums.

Assuming that you can still get CR XI R2 (v11.5) Developer edition you'll have to update your CR8.5 VB6 application to use the new v11.5 components. This means updating the references and components and updating the CR Viewer in your VB6 projects. There is a "sticky post" at the beginning of this forum with information on how to find CR XIR2 resources.

Sincerely,

Dan Kelleher
