PPDS dynamic vs fixed pegging

Former Member

Hi

Under what circumstances would one use dynamic pegging or fixed pegging ? From the online documentation it looks like both of them are used to support detailed scheduling so that dependant orders can be rescheduled or not rescheduled depending upon relationships between the orders on different BOM levels. Is it that an MTO environment is more suited for fixed pegging whereas an MTS environment more suitable for dynamic pegging ?

Thanks

Please refer SAP Note 393437 - Pegging in APO: background information (documentation) for detailed documentation of Fixed/dynamic pegging and in which scenarios individuals are used.

Hi

In my experience, fixed pegging is higly suitable for MTO scenarios. I can think of the following advantages of fixed pegging under MTO scenarios :

It identifies planning problems at all levels of production and highlights them using alerts incase there are discrepancies.

The dependent orders are automatically scheduled if DS heurisitics is implemented

Incase of MTS sceanrio, I cannot possibly think of a scenario where fixed pegging can be advantagoues since sales is made out of stock. However incase there are some capacity constraints in case of MTO scenario, then it is advisable to use fixed pegging so that production plans which may be fixed due to capacity constraints, are not disturbed.

I am sure you have read all the documentation on pegging structures. Incase you have missed something, please use the following link to read more on the same
