Dear Experts,
can you explain, is there a difference between Embedded Search and SES?
...allow me to add to Frank's very correct statements:
SES (ECC 6.0):
Indexes will always be controlled and aministrated by local Business Suite app.
In a cross-system scenario using SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search SES indexes can be easily meta-searched, but they cannot be relocated to the hub.
Embedded Search (ECC 6.0, EhP4 and above):
Indexes, models, configurations and thus administration can all be physically centralized on the SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search hub, as soon as one is present in the landscape. This reduces landscape complexity and allows ccentral, cross-system search access while the local search functionality also stays intact.
Best, Karsten

Hi Experts!
But how can I define my own business objects for Embedded Search. With SES it was made by simply creating a Business Object via SES_ADMIN and then creating and implementing an Index Class with certain methods.
How is this done with Embedded Search. Ist there any documentation/How-To-Guide for customer-own objects with Embedded Search.
And last but not least: Can I rescue some investments already done in implementing own objects with SES or do I have to start from scratch again?
Unfortunately I have found no answers to these question in SAP help.
Thanx very much for any information!!!
Regards,
volker
Hi,
you wrote
"SES can be used ONLY for SAP ERP business object, whereas Embedded Search can be used by SAP ERP as well other SAP Business Suite applications. Is that the only one difference?"
well you can use SES and embedded search not only for ERP, you can as well use both for other SAP Business Suites like CRM. But only in ERP there are out-of-the-box some business objects defined for searching via SES. SES and embedded search are part of AS ABAP.
SES is available with NW 7.0 and Embedded Search is available with SAP Business Suite 7.0 (NW 7.01).
The most important part is:
The successor framework of SES is "Embedded Search".
