Data from SAP BW

Hi All.

If the data is coming from SAP BW to SAP APO for DP then where the data will go ?

Can the data from SAP BW come directly to Planning Area. If so then how to see the data in Planning Area.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help,

Prabhat Sahay

Hi Prabhat,

The data in BW is stored in various cubes for storing it.

These data will be used for planning purposes for APO

into various modules like DP, SNP etc., via its planning

area.

The data from cube will be extracted to planning area

for planning purposes. These data from planning area

will be used in the planning book wherein you can view

the data in the interactive planning books

Hope it is clear now. Please confirm

Hi Senthil,

I understood that the data from cube is extracted to Planning Area but still I need to further understand that data from BW is coming to APO cube or to PA.. ?

Thanks,

Hi Kumar

Just to answer your question, in most cases, the data is pulled from BW cube to APO cube and from APO cube into the planning area if you have a separate standalone BW system other than APO BW. As Senthil as stated, BW first pulls the data from the datasource (ERP, legacy systems, flat files, etc), massages it and the converted/transformed data is sent to APO cubes. From APO cubes, the data can be sent to DP/SNP planning areas.

If you dont have a separate standlaone BW system, the data can be fetched into APO BW and then directly sent to Planning areas from APO cubes.

I hope this gives some clarity to your query. Let me know if you need further details.

Hi Sandeep,

As you mentioned that "_in most cases_, the data is pulled from BW cube to APO cube and from APO cube into the planning area if you have a separate standalone BW system other than APO BW".

Now my question is -- Can the data come from BW cube directly to Planning Area ?

In our project we have separate standalone BW system.

Can we implement the functionality as such the data from BW cube coming to APO PA directly if so then how ?

Thanks a lot,

Prabhat

Hi Prabhat,

I am not sure if this can be done. Whenever you want to load data from any of the providers (infocube, multi-provider, DSO, etc), they need to be present in APO. Alternately saying it seems, that the data needs to be staged in APO BW rather than in stand alone BW system.

However, may I know what is stopping you from buliding a info provider in the APO BW system?

I acknowledged your help

Hi Prabhat,

BW system is the inbound storage area for data from the source systems.

It serves as data fetching system for the SCM components.

The cubes and other objects are constructed within this system and are

stored.

In answer to question, BW & cube are as one entity and APO & planning

area are another entity. Hence when data flows from cube to planning

area, it is indicatoring the data flow between BW and APO systems

Hi,

In SAP BW, the data is stored in Infocubes. From these infocubes, we can transfer the data to planning areas.

Before we can copy the transaction data which is done using the txn /sapapo/tscube, we have generate CC from that particular infocube.

This can be achieved from Generate Characterstic screen from /sapapo/mc82 txn. Alternatively it can also be accessed by right clicking on the MPOS name in txn /sapapo/msdp_admin.

After this is complete, we can copy the txn data and we are set the data from SAP BW has is now avaialble in SAP APO.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
