Compress Infocubes - Before HANA Migration

Hi All,

I have a question regarding Infocubes Compression before HANA Migration... Currently we migrating the BW System from BW 7.3 ORACLE to BW 7.4 on HANA... So when I checked with my other colleagues who has worked on HANA Migration projects they said it is mandatory to compress all Infocubes before HANA Migration,, If not Post Migration we will be not able to convert Infocubes to In-memory ( HANA optimized) Infocubes.

It it really mandatory to compress all Infocubes ?

I have already searched in SAP Support, but couldn't any documented informaiton

Thanks!

HA

Interesting. I happened to read at the time the note 1780575 and concluded (wrongly ?) that compression was not mandatory even on non-cumulative cubes.

"The new RSADMIN parameter FORCE_NCUM_CUBE_CONVERSION now enables you to perform the conversion of an InfoCube even if it still contains non-compressed requests.".

As I didn't have any cube of this type, I could not test it or validate that this note is still valid on a 740.

Thanks Frederic.

But in our current scenario we have faced few situations.. Like Lets take one of the Infocube ( with non-cumulative) key figures has not been compressed before Migration and we proceed to migrate HANA DB.. This is from Version BW 7.3 to BW 7.4.. However, Post migration for one of the infocube which had non-cummulative keyfigures is not fully compressed.. However we tried to convery the CUBE to HANA In-memory and it ended with exceptions " Not all requests in the non-cumulative infocube are compressed ".. Hence, we tried compressing the Infocube but it ended with Short dump... So we have to delete the data and tried to Convery to HANA in memory which was working fine.

But the challenges I could see is how we need to handle it in Production environment

Thanks!

Hi Hemanth,

This may have been mandatory at a time (730 ?) but not anymore. At least, I never had to compress any cube in my migration in order to convert them to Hana optimized cube (in a 740 version).
