MS SharePoint <-> ECC Integration

Hello all,

There is a requirement to integrate SAP ECC with Sharepoint such that links of documents (residing in SharePoint) can be put into ECC system (while writing notes in HCM, SRM, etc).

I know of only way of doing this i.e. via KM

SharePoint <-> KM <-> ECC

SharePoint <-> KM - integration done

KM <-> ECC - can be done using KM Provider (in spro)

The only concern I have regarding the above integration with KM being the middle layer is the performance or should say system load.

We are making extensive use of KM for other integrations so am looking for options wherein this can be done without the KM.

Please share your thoughts/experiences on this.
